Start with a meeting
QuillMemo: Voice to Text keeps meeting audio, transcripts and notes together. Get everyone's permission before recording, and keep the device close enough to hear the conversation.
- From Home, choose Capture or the Record button.
- Choose Meeting for a discussion, or Dictation for a spoken note. Templates also offers Interview, Field Visit and Journal with Pro.
- Check your language and choose how transcription will work: On this device or Use Apple online. Online recognition may send audio to Apple.
- Choose Record. Use Pause and Resume when you need a break.
- Choose Stop when you have finished, then review the transcript and notes.
A recording you have started can continue while the screen is locked. After a call or microphone interruption, check the recording and choose Resume yourself. The app does not restart the microphone automatically.
Import an audio file
- Choose Import Audio from Home or Capture.
- Choose Audio and select a downloaded, compatible file in Files.
- Choose the capture mode, language and processing choice, then begin transcription.
Use Cancel to leave the file picker without importing. If the file cannot be read, choose another file or keep the audio and try again.
Choose your language
In Settings, open Main language. Search the list of Apple-supported transcription languages, select a language and close the list. The chosen language applies to new transcription attempts.
Use Names and Terms to add names or specialist vocabulary. Hints can help recognition, but do not guarantee accuracy. On-device recognition depends on the selected language and device. Use Apple online is a separate choice, not an automatic fallback.
Review the whole conversation
Open a recording and read its Transcript and Notes. A partial transcript is labelled as partial; it is not presented as the complete recording. Keep the audio and use Retry Missing Part if transcription stopped before the end.
For retained audio, Transcribe Again lets you try a different language or processing choice. Review the result before replacing existing text.
Pro adds summaries, action lists and other structured notes for English recordings. Meeting notes focus on stated decisions and next steps. Interview notes organise questions, answers and quotes; Field Visit separates observations, issues and next steps; Journal keeps first-person notes. Other supported languages provide transcripts and notes you can edit yourself.
Listen and check a detail
Use Play or Pause, the position slider, playback speed and the back or forward ten-second controls. In the original transcript, choose a time marker to revisit that part of the recording. Edited words may not have matching time markers.
If audio was not kept, you can still read and share saved text. Playback, time-marker navigation and exporting original audio need a retained recording.
Edit and keep earlier wording
Edit a title, transcript or note and check the save status. Done closes the keyboard; it does not send your text or discard it. If saving fails, use Retry Save or stay in the editor.
After changing the transcript, use Update Notes to review which notes need updating. Hand-edited notes are not replaced without your confirmation. Use Original Transcript to read recognised wording and Restore Previous to recover the version replaced by an update.
Share notes and follow up
Choose the text you want to use, then Copy, Share or Save to Files. Export Audio saves or shares the retained original recording. Check the selected content before completing the system share or file picker.
Use Email Selected Text or Prepare Email Draft to review an email before choosing a recipient and sending. If mail is unavailable, use Copy or Share.
For an action item, choose Add to Reminders. Review the title, notes, list and any due date, then choose Create. Cancel creates nothing. Missing or unclear dates are left for you to choose.
Find and organise recordings
Home shows recent recordings. See All opens the full active library. Favourites includes starred and pinned recordings; Archive keeps older recordings separate and lets you restore them. Use search and Clear Search to find a title or transcript.
To delete a recording, slide its row left and choose Delete, then confirm Delete Recording. Cancel keeps it. You can also use the recording's More menu. Deletion removes the saved audio and text; copies already shared or saved elsewhere are separate.
Free use and Pro
Free use includes Dictation, Meeting, transcripts and notes, with monthly capture and text-file export limits. Copy, Share and access to your retained audio do not use the text-file export allowance.
Pro unlocks specialist modes and advanced outputs and removes the app's usage limits. In Settings, choose Upgrade to Pro, Restore Purchases or Manage Subscription as needed. Apple shows the current offer and handles billing. Saved recordings and text remain accessible if Pro ends.
Settings and help
Settings includes Main language, processing choice, Names and Terms, default output, audio retention, haptics, current-month usage and purchase controls. Audio is kept by default. Turning retention off removes it only after complete transcription and notes have been saved; it does not remove older recordings.
