What Archway does
Archway moves a WireGuard VPN profile from your iPhone or iPad to Apple TV. It checks the profile before sending it, installs it on Apple TV and returns the setup result to your phone or iPad.
A WireGuard profile is the small configuration file or QR code supplied by your VPN provider, network administrator or your own WireGuard server. Archway does not supply VPN access or a WireGuard server.
Before you start
- Have a working WireGuard client profile for the Apple TV you want to use.
- Use a different WireGuard client profile for each device. Reusing one profile on several devices can interrupt their connections.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad and Apple TV to the same local network.
- Keep the full profile and its private key secure. Only send it to an Apple TV you trust.
1. Add your WireGuard profile
- Open Archway on your iPhone or iPad.
- Choose Setup.
- Enter a short profile name, such as Home WireGuard. This name will also appear on Apple TV.
- Choose one way to add the profile:
- Scan WireGuard QR opens the camera so you can scan an existing WireGuard profile QR code.
- Import .conf File lets you choose a WireGuard configuration file.
- Paste Profile lets you paste the configuration text, then choose Validate Now.
- Wait for Profile Validated. Open Details if you want to check the endpoint, DNS or allowed addresses. Private keys are not displayed in the summary.
If Archway finds an error, it explains what needs attention. Correct the profile or import a different one before continuing.
2. Open Add Profile on Apple TV
- Open Archway on Apple TV.
- If no profile is saved, choose Open Add Profile. Otherwise open Profiles, choose Show Tools, then choose Add Profile.
- Leave the Add Profile page open. It displays one QR code and an eight-character code.
The pairing code expires after ten minutes. Choose Refresh Code on Apple TV if it expires.
3. Pair by QR code or manual code
You only need one pairing method. You do not need to scan the QR code and enter the manual code.
Pair with the QR code
- On your iPhone or iPad, choose Scan Apple TV QR.
- Point the camera at the QR code on Apple TV.
- Keep both apps open while Archway pairs with Apple TV and sends the profile.
Pair with the manual code
- On your iPhone or iPad, choose Pair with Manual Code.
- Enter the eight-character code displayed on Apple TV.
- Keep both apps open while Archway pairs with Apple TV and sends the profile.
4. Respond to a profile warning
Archway warns you if the same WireGuard profile is already assigned to another known device. Choose Use Another Profile and import a separate profile when possible.
Continue Anyway sends the same profile after you confirm. Using one profile on two devices may cause one of them to lose its connection.
5. Follow the Apple TV setup result
Your iPhone or iPad reports each completed stage separately. A saved profile is not treated as connected, and a started VPN is not treated as a confirmed server response.
- Profile saved means the profile is stored on Apple TV.
- Installing VPN means Apple TV is adding the VPN configuration.
- Ready to connect means you can select Connect on Apple TV.
- VPN started means Apple TV reports that the VPN is running.
- Server responded means your WireGuard server has recently replied.
- Not confirmed yet means no recent server response was found. An idle VPN can still be working.
Choosing Done closes the setup result on your phone or iPad. It does not stop the VPN on Apple TV.
6. Connect or disconnect on Apple TV
- Open VPN on Apple TV.
- Check that the intended profile appears under Selected Profile.
- If Install VPN is available, choose it and follow any Apple permission prompt.
- Choose Connect to start the selected VPN.
- When connected, the main action changes to Disconnect. Choose it when you want to stop the VPN.
Install VPN, Connect and Disconnect are separate actions. Choosing one never silently performs another.
7. Review a known device
- Open Devices on your iPhone or iPad.
- Choose the Apple TV you want to review.
- Read its assigned profile, latest result and the time it was checked.
Forget Device removes that known-device history from your iPhone or iPad. It does not delete the profile from Apple TV or stop its VPN.
8. Check the Apple TV setup again
- Open Devices on your iPhone or iPad.
- Choose the known Apple TV, then choose Check Setup.
- Open Add Profile on Apple TV and use its fresh QR code or manual code.
- Wait for the current saved, installed, connection and server reply result.
A previous pairing is not permanent permission. Archway asks you to pair again before it reads a fresh result from Apple TV.
9. Check one service you control
The optional service check asks Apple TV to contact one service address and port number. The address tells Archway where the service is. The port is the number used by that service, such as 443.
- Connect the selected VPN on Apple TV.
- On the Apple TV VPN page, find Optional Service Check and choose Set Up Check.
- Enter an optional name, the host or IP address, and one port.
- Choose Save & Check.
You can also run Check Service from the returned phone result after using Check Setup. Archway reports whether the service answered from Apple TV. It does not claim that the traffic used the VPN route.
10. Manage saved profiles on Apple TV
- Open Profiles to see the selected profile and the saved profile list.
- Choose a saved profile to select it for the VPN controls.
- Use Details to read a summary that leaves out private keys.
- Use Show Tools for search, refresh, Add Profile and delete controls.
- Use Back to Top after moving through a long profile list.
The Profiles page scrolls with the Siri Remote. Keep moving down to reach later profiles, advanced tools and confirmation actions.
11. Install or use the profile on your iPhone or iPad
Open Devices, then use the This iPhone or This iPad section. You can install the selected profile, connect, disconnect or remove its VPN configuration from the current device. Removing the VPN configuration does not clear the imported profile text from Archway.
12. Enter a profile with the Apple TV remote
If you cannot use an iPhone or iPad, open Add Profile on Apple TV and choose Enter Configuration. Enter a profile name and the full WireGuard configuration, then choose Save. This option is slower and will not add the Apple TV to the Devices page on your phone.
When something does not work
- Camera unavailable: open Settings on iPhone or iPad and allow Camera access for Archway, or use the manual pairing code.
- Apple TV not found: keep both devices awake, connect them to the same local network and leave Add Profile open on Apple TV.
- Code expired: choose Refresh Code on Apple TV, then scan or enter the new code.
- Profile rejected: return to Setup and correct the error or import a different client profile.
- VPN will not start: make sure the intended profile is selected and installed, then try Connect again.
- No recent server response: the VPN may be idle. Check your WireGuard server and its address, or run the optional service check if you control a suitable service.
Privacy and support
Archway keeps profile information on your devices and transfers it directly across your local network when you choose. Read the Archway Privacy Policy or visit Archway Support if you need help.
